Poets bring the lifeblood to poetryshop's poetry pamphlets, the poets work is what we celebrate by reading their poems; by providing feedback through either critical commentary or simply by saying thank you we are able to let the poets know of the pleasure we have derived from their efforts.
Poets are fond of inspiration and often inspiration can be found by looking at how other poets tackle similar subjects, either to express a position or in search of a demonstration of deeper understanding. We hope that as a poet, of whatever level, you are encouraged by the site, encouraged to show your poetry and become involved in the development and promotion of poetry.
Each poet is able to have one pamphlet on the poetry page links, but on their own page the poets can have links to a number of their pamphlets, although in fairness to both other poets and the site editors please only submit one pamphlets worth of work at a time.
There's no money in poetry, but then there's no poetry in money, either. Robert Graves, 1962 interview on BBC-TV, based on a very similar statement he overheard around 1955.
Out of the quarrel with others we make rhetoric; out of the quarrel with ourselves we make poetry. W.B. Yeats
To make money we are thankfully (or not) able to apply ourselves otherwise; but we are lovers of poetry, and often have quiet quarrels of such. We hope that through the site we can read more poetry and be encouraged ourselves to write more poetry, and of course to attract more poets into our circle of friends.
We do though intend to let the poetry publishing world at large know of poetryshops pamphlets, our objetcive is that the site can be built to become a valuable and useful showcase for poets and their poetry. |
